Meet the Celebrant!

Hey! I’m Katherine.

I’m a Humanist Celebrant based in the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania and I’ve been a wedding officiant specializing in (mostly) nonreligious ceremonies since 2017. I’m so excited you’re here. I promise, you’re in the right place!

I serve couples who want a ceremony that feels considered, personal, and true to who they actually are.

I’ve worked with couples across a wide range of orientations, identities, family structures, belief systems, and life stages. I don’t approach those differences as obstacles to work around or special cases that require careful handling. They’re simply part of the landscape of human relationships.

What matters more to me is how a couple understands one another, what they value, and how they move through the world together.

I take your ceremony seriously. It’s not filler between the processional and the party. It’s the one part of the wedding where everyone is gathered for the same purpose, paying attention to the same words, and hearing your truth.

My role is to listen closely, ask good questions, and translate what’s essential about your relationship into language that sounds like you and feels right to say out loud in front of the people who matter most.

I work best with couples who care about meaning, clarity, and intention, even if they’re not quite sure yet how to put those things into words.

“She was quite literally the BEST out of all the vendors we hired for the wedding! I could go on and on listing great things about working with her but if I had to choose a couple to highlight, it would be her compassion and her responsiveness! With Katherine, I NEVER had to worry. She always answered any questions we had almost instantly.

You wouldn't believe how much these "little" things really make a difference when you're already trying to keep track of a hundred other things during wedding planning!” — Alina & Haseeb

A little more about me . . .

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a fascination with languages, cultures, and traditions - basically with the way different people see and make sense of the world. This helps me serve couples from many backgrounds with respect and a beginner’s mind. I’m particularly interested in the underlying beliefs and values that couples want to bring to their wedding day - and with helping express them.

I was lucky enough to live abroad for several years and have traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, South America and Asia. Experiencing different cultures has profoundly enriched my life and taught me that understanding is hard but rewarding, while judging is easy and self-defeating.

My core values include curiosity, vulnerability (another word for courage), and continuing to surprise myself as I go through life. Having been through both grief and a life-threatening medical condition first-hand helps me to treat couples with sensitivity when these realities are part of their wedding day.

I’m quite the overthinker - I could follow an idea or a novel scenario to the edge of doom. As a wedding officiant I turn that habit to good use. I promise you this: no one you work with will put more thought into every tiny aspect of your wedding ceremony than I will. And no one will be more invested in its success than me. We don’t solve problems on your wedding day. We get out in front of them so they never crop up in the first place.

I love good books and good food (especially dumplings), tea, cats of all kinds, the films of Jim Jarmusch and Terrence Malick, the entire brassica family, jewel tones, winter, the Seattle Seahawks, and snorkeling. Still on the fence about the Oxford comma and modern art.

I’m not artistically gifted, but I’m all for for untalented people making imperfect stuff by hand and having fun with it. I’m stuck with messy hair and have learned to embrace it.

What People Are Saying

“Katherine Hunter officiated our wedding in Philadelphia. This was an LGBT wedding of two men, and Katherine was incredibly supportive, open, and professional in her approach. She did not impose her wishes or expectations on us and led us to options and respected our decisions for our ceremony.”

-Jon M.

“My husband and I had a vague idea of a unique ceremony, and Katherine had very helpful suggestions and edits for us. She made several meetings with us through our planning process, and we felt very taken care of and heard.”

-Samantha J.

“All in all, there aren’t words to express how grateful we are to have had Katherine guiding us through such a significant moment in our lives. We highly, HIGHLY recommend her, and if we could give more than 5 stars, we absolutely would!”
